  • Two main nutrients in foods make your LDL-cholesterol level (bad cholesterol)
    go up: saturated fat and cholesterol, both which come mainly from animal products.

Reyes Syndrome Awareness Month

  • Reye's Syndrome usually appears after a flu-like infection, upper respiratory
    infection, chicken pox, or other viral illness. 
  • Reye's Syndrome affects all organs of the body, but most lethally the liver and
    the brain.
  • Early signs of Reye's Syndrome are continuous vomiting, listlessness, loss of
    energy, aggressiveness, confusion, and irrational behavior.

  • Pediculosis is an infestation of the hairy parts of the body or clothing with the eggs, larvae or adults of lice.
  • Anyone may become louse infested under suitable conditions of exposure. Pediculosis is easily transmitted from person to person during direct contact.
  • Females get head lice more often than males.

  • Accidents involving common household products cause 125,000 eye injuries each year.
  • More than 40,000 people a year suffer eye injuries while playing sports.
  • For all age groups, sports-related eye injuries occur most frequently in baseball, basketball and racquet sports.

  • An estimated 72 million people in the United States age 20 or older have high blood pressure, a risk factor for CVD.
  • 105.2 million people in the United States age 20 or older have blood cholesterol of 200 mg/dL or above, a risk factor for CVD.
