Fireworks Safety Month

  • 40% of firework injuries were to children 15 and under.
  • The best defense against kids suffering severe eye injuries and burns is to not let kids play
  •  with any fireworks.
  • Bystanders are more often injured by fireworks than the people who set them off.
  • Be aware that even sparklers are dangerous - they burn up to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit and cause one third of injuries in children 5 and younger.

National Scleroderma Awareness Month

  • Scleroderma, or systemic sclerosis, is a chronic connective tissue disease generally classified as one of the autoimmune rheumatic diseases.
  • There are an estimated 300,000 people in the United States who have scleroderma, about one third of whom have the systemic form of scleroderma.
  • Female patients outnumber male patients about four to one, and the average age at diagnosis is in the forties.

  • It is estimated that about 1 million people in the United States today suffer from aphasia.
